The Cameroon military shot dead an unidentified commercial bike rider and took two others away in Bamenda, the headquarters of the North West region.
The incident sources confirmed occurred Monday, December 23, 2024, in the Ntamulung neighbourhood.
Local sources report that the deceased tried to escape after security forces nabbed them along with two others at about 4pm on this fateful day.
Security forces opened fire on him immediately after he reportedly jumped from the military truck and headed for a nearby escape route.
Residents reported hearing gunshots shortly after the military took three of them away with their hands tied.
“Armed men took them with their hands tied and threw them into a military truck.”An eyewitness told MMI, “This man jumped down from the vehicle and started running before they shot him.”
Someone abandoned his corps MMI in a gutter near a building under construction in the neighbourhood.
Visibly consternated, the population trooped to the scene in disbelief and unable to identify the bike rider.
“We have searched this bag on his neck but no document to identify who he is and where he comes from,” another local told MMI.
It is unclear why they were detained by security forces.
Extrajudicial killings have continued with impunity in Cameroon’s Anglophone Regions, where a separatist-inspired armed conflict has persisted since 2017. Government forces and armed separatist Ambazonia militants continue to commit atrocities against armless civilians with no investigations and prosecution of perpetrators.
