Military operations in Cameroon’s conflict-hit North West and South West Regions have killed two separatist fighters, including a self-styled commander.

In Rom village, Nwa Subdivision, North West Region, military forces reportedly killed Hassan Njatow, who styled himself as “Mission Commander,” in an ambush.

Sources allege that villagers tipped off security forces about Njatow’s movements due to his alleged involvement in roadblocks along the Nwa-Ndu road.

Villagers also accused him of kidnapping people and demanding large ransoms.

His death is a significant blow to separatist fighters’ activities in the area, according to locals.

Meanwhile, in a similar operation in the South West Region, soldiers of the 21st Battalion killed a separatist fighter popularly known as “Colonel Toless” of Makobe.

The military operation was part of ongoing pacification efforts in the region and also occurred on December 30, 2024.

Neither state authorities nor separatist groups have officially reacted to the operations.

However, the killings highlight the intensified military crackdown on separatist fighters as the Anglophone Crisis persists.

The conflict, which erupted in late 2016, has led to significant casualties and displacement, with calls for peace negotiations continuing to grow. Despite the killing of many separatist commanders, there is no sign that the conflict is abating as others keep springing up.
