Reports have confirmed two violent deaths in separate incidents over the weekend in Bamenda, North West region, Cameroon. On Monday February 24, locals reportedly found the corpse of a man lying by the road in the Rendezvous neighborhood in Bamenda II. Observations indicate that someone shot him in the head while he had his hands tied behind his back. A former separatist fighter, who once held a high rank in Noni, has been identified as the deceased.
Sources say he had been frequenting the Mile 4 motor park in Bamenda, posing as one of those loading vehicles for other parts of the North West Region whereas his aim was reportedly to identify passengers to attackers.
Security forces tracked his activities, took him to Rendezvous, and shot him on Sunday night.
The Bamenda City Council reportedly carried the corpse but MMI cannot confirm if they buried or deposited at the mortuary.
Meanwhile, on Saturday, another fatal incident occurred along the new road, Bamenda III Subdivision. . A suspected bandit attempted to attack a commercial bike rider, but the victim, fought back. He reportedly overpowered his attacker, and reportedly killed him on the spot.
Residents said they heard loud screams but before they could arrive the scene, they over heard the bike rider say he attempted to attack him but he overpowered him while leaving the scene.
Both incidents have sparked discussions about rising insecurity and vigilante justice across the North West Region.
Authorities have not yet officially commented on either the case of the separatist or the robber. However, with the rise in insecurity, many have been taking the laws into their own hands.
