As insecurity continues to mount along the tri-border area between Nigeria, Chad, and Cameroon, the Nigerian armed forces are intensifying their operations to dismantlehttps://recruitment.army.mil.ng/ non-state armed groups destabilizing the region.
In a targeted dawn operation on Friday, May 30, troops from the Nigerian Army’s 3rd Division and Operation Safe Haven carried out a swift raid on Hura village in Bassa Local Government Area, Plateau State.
Acting on credible intelligence, the forces apprehended a suspect described as an active member of a local militia linked to recent violent attacks.
The arrest led to the seizure of an AK-47 assault rifle, a loaded magazine, 26 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition, several suspicious talismans, and 2,500 naira in cash.
Military sources indicate that the suspect is connected to a criminal network allegedly behind the recent murder of a herdsman and the theft of 1,250 cattle in the village of Tomborong, just three days earlier.
While in custody, he is reportedly cooperating with authorities to identify accomplices and uncover additional weapons caches.
This latest operation comes amid a sharp rise in cross-border attacks by armed groups exploiting the porous frontiers of Nigeria, Chad, and Cameroon.
Illicit arms trafficking and deepening intercommunal tensions have fueled insecurity in this volatile corridor, with militias, bandits, and terror groups spreading violence across rural communities.
In response, the Nigerian military has ramped up search and sweep operations across Plateau State and beyond, aiming to dismantle resistance cells and reassert state authority in hard-hit zones.
