A prominent Cameroonian-American educator, Mr. Martin Abegly, was killed by unknown gunmen in Bamenda on August 6, 2025, sending shockwaves through the local community and the Cameroonian diaspora.

Mr. Abegly, a well-known businessman and educational consultant, had traveled from the United States to Cameroon to oversee a construction project in his hometown. According to local sources, the attack occurred in the Ntarikon neighborhood, where gunmen believed to be associated with separatist groups attempted to abduct Mr. Abegly. When he resisted, they fatally shot him.

A former student of Sacred Heart College Mankon, Mr. Abegly was a prominent figure in the Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia (DMV) area’s Cameroonian community. He was known for his contributions to education and served as an educational management consultant for Prince George’s County Public Schools for over 25 years.

The motive for the attack remains unclear, and authorities still doing investigation to determine the cause of his death. His killing has been widely condemned by the community.

This is a developing story and more details will be brought in as soon as we get them.
