The United States Congress has praised Burkina Faso’s military and agricultural achievements under junta leader Captain Ibrahim Traoré.

A U.S. delegation led by Senator James Austin Scott acknowledged these advancements during a meeting on Friday, August 29, with the President of Burkina Faso’s Transitional Legislative Assembly (ALT), Dr. Ousmane Bougouma.

According to the U.S., Burkina Faso has made significant progress in reclaiming its national territory from terrorist groups.

Additionally, the U.S. expressed admiration for the agricultural initiatives undertaken by the Sahel nation.

As reported by Agence d’Information du Burkina (AIB), the discussions centered on shared development challenges, particularly in the economic, agricultural, and security sectors.

“Honorable Scott commended the efforts of the Burkinabè government, specifically the success of the agricultural offensive, the advances made in reclaiming national territory, and the dynamism of the economic sector,” the agency stated.

Following the meeting, Dr. Ousmane Bougouma expressed his appreciation for this gesture of consideration and sympathy, noting that the meeting paves the way for strengthening cooperation and friendship between Burkina Faso and the United States.

Since assuming power through a military coup, Captain Ibrahim Traoré has prioritized the transformation of Burkina Faso’s industrial and agricultural sectors.

The leader has also collaborated with Russia to enhance military capabilities following the withdrawal of French forces.

Several months ago, General Michael Langley, head of the U.S. Africom military command center, testified before Congress that Traoré was using Burkina Faso’s resources for personal protection.

This statement was met with significant backlash from numerous African youths worldwide, who applaud Traoré for his pan-Africanist vision.

However, the recent positive remarks from the U.S. signals Traore’s government’s growing global popularity.
