The gendarmerie has dealt a heavy blow to organized crime in the capital city Yaounde, arresting 14 suspected members of the notorious “microbes” gang.
The operation was conducted on September 15 and September 16 in the Nkoabang neighborhood.
This action followed an investigation into the murder of 26-year-old Abeng Minkonda Alain, killed by attackers.
In response to a surge in complaints about thefts and assaults in the area, the Judicial Investigation and Major Crime Unit of the First Gendarmerie Region took action.
The operation was fruitful: some suspects were caught in the act of burglary.
During questioning, they admitted not only to killing Abeng but also to terrorizing the Nkoabang neighborhood in recent weeks.
A search of their homes uncovered a real arsenal—knives used in the killing, machetes, as well as hard drugs (Indian hemp, cocaine, tramadol) and numerous stolen items, including televisions and gas bottles.
The 14 individuals, seven of whom were already known to law enforcement, have been brought before the Yaoundé High Court.
The investigation continues in an effort to dismantle other gangs operating in the city.
