The Fourth Deputy Mayor of Yagoua in Cameroon’s Far North Region has announced his resignation from the ruling Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM), bringing to an end more than a decade of active political engagement within the party.

In a resignation letter addressed to the President of the CPDM, Paul Biya, the official said his decision takes immediate effect. He noted that he joined the party in 2010 upon attaining voting age and steadily rose through its ranks, a journey he described as marked by loyalty and sustained grassroots activism.

According to the letter, his commitment to the CPDM earned him the confidence of both party leadership and local militants, leading to his appointment in 2015 as Secretary General of the CPDM Youth Wing at the section level. This engagement later translated into electoral success during the 2020 municipal elections, when he was elected councillor and subsequently chosen by his peers as Fourth Deputy Mayor of Yagoua.

The outgoing official expressed gratitude to party militants who supported him over the past 15 years, as well as to critics within the party, whom he said also played a role in shaping his political experience.

While the resignation letter did not spell out the reasons behind his departure from the CPDM, the move is seen as politically significant in Mayo-Danay Division, where the ruling party has traditionally maintained a strong presence.
