The Governor of the North West Region, Adolphe Lele L’Afrique, has urged journalists to adopt a more solution-oriented approach in addressing the ongoing crisis in the region, as he closed the North West Media Forum in Bamenda.

Speaking during the award ceremony, the Governor described himself as part of the journalism profession, recalling that he was a journalist in secondary school before diverting to administration.

He said the pressure journalists face from “left, right, top and bottom” helps keep the profession upright and accountable.

He said the government was using all available means to restore lasting peace but stressed that efforts from grassroots communities remain urgent and indispensable.

The Governor also announced plans for closer collaboration with the media, calling on journalists to go beyond reporting the crisis to highlighting community-based solutions.

“Next time, we should practice solution journalism when looking at the crisis,” he said.

Praising the North West Media Forum, the Governor said its existence was timely and divinely inspired, noting that journalists play a central role in rebuilding the region.

“We cannot do anything without you, the journalists,” he added.

The forum, organised by the Bamenda Chapter of the Cameroon Association of English-Speaking Journalists (CAMASEJ), brought together media professionals to reflect on how to revive the media, reclaim its dignity and renew hope.

Awards were also presented to journalists who distinguished themselves in reporting on health, the environment, the economy, education and solution-focused journalism.
