The family of the late political figure, Ekane Anicet Georges, has officially begun the process of assuming responsibility for his remains, which have been kept at the Yaounde Central hospital mortuary since December 1, 2025.
In a formal letter addressed to the Director General of the hospital, representatives acting on behalf of the deceased’s beneficiaries informed management of recent developments concerning the body’s legal status and custody.
According to the document, Ekane Anicet Georges died on December 1, 2025, and his body has since been under judicial seal, following restrictions imposed by the Government.
The family has now received official communication indicating that these restrictions are in the process of being lifted.
Copies of the relevant correspondence have been transmitted to the hospital authorities for information and follow-up.
Pending the full implementation of the decision and official notifications to all concerned parties, the family has designated the deceased’s widow, Jeanne Edwige Sogue, to take responsibility for the body.
The burial programme, according to the letter, will be determined later by family members.
The development marks a significant step toward the eventual release and burial of the late Ekane Anicet Georges, following more than two months of legal and administrative procedures.
Anicet Ekane was arrested along side many others after the October 2025 presidential election and he later died in custody.
