The manager and adviser to Cameroon’s viral maths prodigy, Genesis Nkeh, popularly known as the Human Calculator, have announced their resignation, citing concerns over their personal safety and well being.
In separate statements issued on Sunday, October 25, Genesis’ manager Sam Joker and adviser Nchindo Gilbert announced their decisions to step down from supporting and promoting Genesis’ mathematical talent.
Genesis had been performing complex mathematical calculations and receiving praise around neighbourhoods and streets in Bamenda when Sam Joker spotted him and undertook to professionalize it through content creation.
Over the past months, he helped create and run social media pages for Genesis through which the human calculator gained wider popularity and has appeared on media interviews, including on CRTV, thanks to the professional management of his talent.
The exposure also helped in raising funds for Genesis’ upkeep. However, on Sunday, Sam Joker announced his decision to step back. He alleged that he had faced threats to his life and other distressing experiences, while Gilbert said security concerns had made it difficult for him to continue in his advisory role.
Gilbert clarified that his decision was not due to a breakdown in his working relationship with the management team.
Reacting to the developments, humanitarian advocate, Ayah Ayah Abine, who repea has been raising funds for Genesis’ health challenges, called on the management team and family to find common ground and resolve their differences.
Ayah stressed the importance of mentorship for Genesis and urged the team to put Genesis’ interests first. He also highlighted the contributions of the woman who has cared for Genesis over the past four years, calling for her involvement in decisions concerning the young mathematician.
The withdrawals have raised questions about the future of the team responsible for guiding and promoting Genesis’ talent.
