Cameroonian banking executive Eric Intong Monchu has been appointed Group Managing Director in charge of Client Relations and Regional Operations for Africa and the Caribbean at Afreximbank, one of the continent’s leading multilateral financial institutions.

The appointment, announced on August 31, 2026, caps a remarkable journey that began in the classrooms of Lycée Bilingue Bafoussam and CCAST Bambili, where he distinguished himself as an exceptional student.

Based in Cairo, Egypt, Monchu will oversee three main dimensions of banking activity: business development, client relationship management, and transaction execution.

Monchu holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of Buea, obtained in 2002, where he also served as President of the Students’ Association from 2001 to 2002 — an early leadership experience that foreshadowed his management career.

He later earned a Master of Business Administration in Finance and Accounting from Rotterdam Business School in the Netherlands in 2007.

With over 24 years of experience in international banking and development finance, Monchu has been involved in major financing operations supporting African governments, financial institutions, and significant infrastructure and industrial projects.

His expertise in sovereign financing is particularly relevant to Cameroon’s economic development aspirations.

His story stands as an inspiration to young Cameroonians, proof that discipline, determination, and academic excellence can propel one from local classrooms to the heights of African finance.
