Education stakeholders in the Moungo Division of the Littoral Region of Cameroon say they are worried about the prevailing insecurity in the area, especially in schools.
Cognizant of the proximity of the Moungo to the crisis-hit South West region, school authorities are adopting measures to ensure a hitch free academic year 2018/2019.
During a security coordination meeting in Nkongsamba, chaired by the Divisional Delegate of Secondary Education, Emmanuel NZOKI, the education stakeholders exchanged knowledge on how to guide learners against criminality and violent practices. According to NZOKI, the instructions came from the Minister of Secondary Education, who demanded that school authorities be schooled on the challenging context and the task ahead of them.
The meeting according to him was an avenue to assembly the difficulties faced by schools in the Moungo which now host a large number of displaced learners from the South West region. Mushroom schools have been erected in the Moungo to host hungry learners from the South West and North West.
Newly appointed school officials were equally given directives to enable them evade any consequential security problem.
The adopted to warn students and pupils against boarding commercial motorcycles of riders that they can not identify. This move according to them will save them from falling into the hands of kidnappers.
Some schools have resorted to establish school identity cards for students in order to track down intruders. It is however expected that these measures be fully implemented for the security of teachers and learners in the Moungo.
