President Biya’s campaign speech to the people of the Far North Region was that of a statesman and politician. He appealed both to electorates and citizens in a speech which appreciated, recalled, appealed, condemned and promised.

Opening by appreciating the warm welcome from a people he qualified as hospitable and faithful, President Biya said his choice to launch campaigns in the Far North was a demonstration of the high esteem he holds for the region.

He said the second reason was to let the people of the region he loves so much benefit from the “grand opportunities” that he offers Cameroon.

He recalled what he, with the support of the people of this region, has been able to achieve. They overcame the Boko Haram sect, which to him was the greatest challenge. The people were resilient; despite the crisis and challenges they stood by him and he by them.

He also recalled the challenges of natural disasters like floods which they overcame together. A togetherness in achievements which to him deserves another chance to facilitate the reconstruction of the region affected by Boko Haram.

He promised the construction of social amenities to facilitate the come back of the displaced population, the improvement of energy supply by boosting solar and hydro-energy,  a project to start the exploitation of minerals found in this region, and recruitment of agricultural experts and people to boost the sector.

He also promised to valorize the tourism sector of the region considered as the most beautiful and the extension of the railway from Ngaoundere to Ndjamena through Kousseri in the Far North.

Biya condemned orchestrators of insecurity in Cameroon, citing highway robbery, terrorism and the secessionist movement in the North West and South West Regions.

He promised to give back the deserving welfare to the people of the conflict-hit North West and South West by combating what he termed “so-called liberators”. He promised a Cameroon of greater prosperity and achievements which will follow after the October 7 victory.

The CPDM presidential candidate Paul Biya was accompanied by his wife Chantal Biya and scores of government ministers.

This is the 9th time incumbent Paul Biya is visiting Maroua and the first time since he declared war on Boko Haram militants in the region.

Reports say the Head of State will be in Douala in the hours ahead for campaigns and the inauguration of the second bridge over River Wouri. Mimi Mefo Info is  still to lay hands on the official agenda of the CPDM candidate.
