On the night of Friday October 20, 2017, a gendarmerie truck on breakneck speed, rammed into many vehicles and passers-by, leaving at least one of them dead.

The victim was later recognised as Ewane Nora, final year Law student in the University of Buea.

She was just returning from school that evening, on her way to her house, when untimely death snatched her.

One year today, many denizens of Molyko are still grinding their teeth, as they accused the government of Cameroon of haven done anything to even comfort their pains.

While those who lost one thing or the other said they have not been compensated, the family of Nora says, they still have a deep wound for the loss of their daughter.

“My car was parked outside this boutique while I came in to collect some beverages. I only head a huge bang moments later, and when I checked, my car was gone. Today is year since that happened, I have neither heard any sympathy message from the office of the gendarmerie, nor have I got any compensation. We live in a very rotten system. I have decided to give everything to God,” Nicholas Tamajong, a taxi driver, lamented on the spot where the incident happened.

“I cry everyday especially when I look at the picture of Nora. It’s already a year since we lost that daughter who shouldered all our future. We have not bothered to request for any compensation because no amount of that, will pay for even a nail of Nora. We continue to pay for God to grant our daughter an eternal rest in his kingdom,” Mama Ewane, Nora’s Mum, continuously shared tears while narrating the pains.

Meanwhile, the population of Malingo continue to remember the day, praying such never happens in their streets. Some sympathizers carried out some clean up just around where the tragic incident happened, to pay homage.
