It is in tears that some shop owners at the food market in Bamenda watched their goods being reduced to nothing by fire.

The fire out break which is set to have started at about 1:00am Thursday October 29, reduced over 15 lockup kiosks to ashes.

On ground to contain the fire, were elements of the army rescue unit with reinforcement from elements of the national security.

The over 3-hour intervention by fire fighters prevented the fire from spreading to other shops.

As stated by warrant officer Taku Paul of the Army Rescue Unit in Bamenda, the possible cause of the fire could be an electrical fault.

As the shops owners wailed some have blamed it on separatist fighters who had purpotedly set a section of the market ablaze last year in a bit to stop them from selling on ghost town days.

Another source say, the pepetrators are unknown, as the weapon holders have recently been denying claims of attacks.

The victims, many of whom are women, have been struggling to search within the ashes to rescue the little they can for their consumption.

This is the second time goods are lost to fire at the same market in one month.

The first was in February 2017. Last week fire incident was reported along the food market Street. The damage, so far has been estimated at, millions of franc CFA.

At press time investigation have been opened to get the exact value of what is lost.
