Media man and politician, Sam Severin has made public his decision to join the Cameroon Renaissance Movement (MRC) party, sparking much controversy.

Joining the MRC party, Severin says, is one of the most important decisions in his life.

“The MRC has welcomed me and I am happy,” the former UNDP member said.

In a video on social media, Severin explained that though he has been switching sides a lot, he’s at the MRC party to stay.

“It is the first time I am officially becoming a party member and getting a party card,” he said.

With Cameroon at a turning point in its history, “I am a candidate in the municipal and legislative elections in the South Region,” he announced.

To the children of the South, “a new south is possible,” he added.

His decision has since been receiving mixed reactions both online and offline. While some MRC militants have been appreciating the move, other individuals say his indecision alone demonstrates his incompetence and inability to adequately serve as a leader.

Last year Severin quit television and became communication officer of presidential candidates including Barrister Akere Muna and Frankline Ndifor.

Quizzed by Mimi Mefo Info what he has to say about reactions of online critics, he said: “This time around it is a personal engagement I’m taking, without strings attached…I am doing this for my people, I had the chance go for juicy offers, but I decided to stand with CRM, I am ready to die for the people’s sake”.

With the mandate of members of parliament as well as other elected representatives extended already, municipal and legislative elections are expected to be organised in the weeks ahead.
