How to properly fine-tune the process of decentralization and special status for a peaceful Cameroon is in the hands of the law makers – Senators and Members of the National Assembly.

Surprisingly, the President of the Senate has been absent for a while now, despite the crucial nature of the issues at stake.

At a time when the Senate is supposed to demonstrate its ability to control government’s actions and make laws that will ensure stability in Cameroon, Marcel Niat Njifenji is conspicuously absent.

At the moment, the first Vice President of the Senate is practically in charge of all public activities of the Senate, including proceedings at the just ended ordinary session and ongoing extraordinary session.

At the opening session of the ordinary session on November 12, 2019, the first Vice President of the Senate, Senator Aboubakary Abdoulaye failed to mention anything about the whereabouts of the President of the Senate Marcel Niat Njifenji.

Despite this, an anonymous source at the general secretariat of the Senate has hinted that poor health is principally responsible for Marcel Niat’s absence during the November parliamentary session.

It would be recalled that during the October 2018 Presidential election, Niat voted in Paris where he was receiving treatment.
