Residents of Ekombe in the Meme division, South West region of Cameroon are still mourning following the killing of a two year old kid on Christmas day. The incident residents say happened when Ambazonian fighters clamouring for an independent state in the West Africa’s English-Speaking regions stopped a car transporting drinks.
The military on its part is said to have heard the boys were around and opened fire from a distance. While shooting randomly residents explain, the child was hurt by bullets and eventually died in the arms of its mother.
The driver of the car transporting drinks was shot in the stomach and has been taken to the hospital for medical care.
´One of the amba boys was eventually killed in the shootout´ MMI gathered from a source. Ekombe residents say the shootout ruined their Christmas celebration as the rest of the day was spent indoors.
Some residents have blamed the separatist fighters, stating that if they had not come out on Christmas day when several kids were having fun, the situation would have been avoided.
The deceased kid was the lone boy of his parents’ five kids.
Prior to the Christmas day shootings, Ekombe had been one of several hotspots in the South West region that witnessed severe clashes between Ambazonian fighters and government soldiers.
