As of Monday March 16th 2020, land, sea and air entry and exit points in Cameroon are still open.

Schools, churches, football matches and other public gatherings are still operational unperturbed throughout the national territory.

The country counts five coronavirus cases as of March 16th. Following several releases signed by the minister of public health, Dr. Manaounda Malachie has been calling on Cameroonians to respect personal and environmental hygiene with emphasis on washing of hands frequently with soap and avoid touching the face.

Five cases of the virus already detected in Cameroon has sent shock waves across the country with Cameroonians evaluating that preventive measures put in place by the government of Cameroon are not enough.

First, people are curious to know measures the government of Cameroon has put in place to check people entry the country through unofficial entry points in the country. To them, the weakness of the government in the domain is leaving Cameroonians more exposed to the virus.

People coming in to Cameroon from coronavirus infected countries, Cameroonians regret, are not automatically quarantined by the government. They cite Hon. Cavaye Yeguie Djibril, incumbent speaker of the national assembly that has been participating in activities at the national assembly despite haven returned from France (a coronavirus infected country) last Saturday March 14th.

To Herman, a Douala based software engineer, “the government needs to take aggressive preventive measures like closing down schools and churches, suspend weddings, football matches and other gatherings that bring people together”.

Cameroonians while comparing drastic preventive measure taken by some African countries like Rwanda and Ghana to what is obtained in Cameroon have been to quick to note that the government of president Biya is undermining far reaching effects of the virus if it eventually spreads to the nooks and crannies of Cameroon.
