Cameroon’s Ministry of Defence confessed Friday that journalist Samuel Wazizi died in their custody but said he died of natural causes.
In fact, defense ministry spokesman Commander Cyrille Serge Atonfack Guemo said Wazizi died on August 17, 2019 of acute sepsis at the military hospital.

As journalists and family members of Wazizi go to the military mortuary at Ekounou in Yaoundé to see the mortal remains of the deceased journalist, experts say the corpse might be in a very bad state – that is if it is not a fake corpse.
Sepsis could actually result from overinfected wounds, sustained from torture, or improper nursing care or no access treatment for existing/underlying health conditions, medics say.
“In short, a mix of torture, neglect, poor detention conditions and refusal of access to proper care can all culminate in severe sepsis or even a septic shock which is often the cause of death.”
Finding suggest that sepsis causes poor organ function or blood flow. The presence of low blood pressure, high blood lactate, or low urine output may suggest poor blood flow. Septic shock is low blood pressure due to sepsis that does not improve after fluid replacement.
Because of problems with vital organs, people with severe sepsis are likely to be very ill. Up to 4 in every 10 people with the condition will die. However, sepsis is treatable if it is identified and treated quickly

“Family will receive pressure, burial envelope, promises like in the Djomo Pokam affair. Please ask journalists/media to give the guy a good burial,that’s all for now,” says an analyst who opted for anonymity given the sensisitve nature of the case.
“They have picked a condition that may be a bit complex for a postmortem 10 months after. But the possiblity of a DNA tests is not ruled out.”
