The president of the Cameroon People’s Party (CPP) and Human Rights activist, Edith Kabang Walla has called for a massive participation in today’s black Friday non-violent protests against what they call “the rogue government”.

The Stand Up for Cameroon movement has decried the rugged system in which the government has implemented its harsh rules on Cameroonians especially on the Anglophone citizens in the Northwest and Southwest Regions.

“In the past years, thousands have been illegally and arbitrarily arrested in the context of the fight against Boko Haram and the Anglophone Crisis. Hundreds remain in prison to date. The Stand Up for Cameroon movement followed this up by equally lashing out at the government for her treatment of certain youths following some joke text messages they had sent about Boko Haram in 2017. “

Three young men are serving 10-year sentences for having sent an SMS joke about Boko haram; Anglophone activists who protested without an ounce of violence in 2017 have been sentenced to over 10 years in prison”.

Stand Up for Cameroon equally demands the release of her members who were arrested and kept in detention till date by the gendarmes in Douala on September 18, 2020 as they left from a Stand Up for Cameroon weekly Friday meeting.

Taking to consideration all these together with the brutal repressions of the police force on protesting civilians on September 22, 2020, it has called on everyone to “to maintain their Friday In Black protest this Friday, October 9, 2020 and to continue with it until the thousands who are under illegal and arbitrary arrest in violation of their fundamental rights as citizens are released.
