People living in Maga subdivision in Mayo Danay Division in the Far North region of Cameroon have been living without electricity since April 2020.
The inhabitants lament that they have been subjected to all sorts of inconveniences following the absence of electricity.

Ibrahim, one of the inhabitants says “All activities that depend on electricity to function have come to a standstill since April 2020. Most homes use bush lamps. Grinding mills have been grounded.”

For seven months, inhabitants that are financially buoyant have resorted to the use of solar panels and generators.
“We have written to the electricity production and distribution companies to reestablish electricity several times but these have not yielded fruits,” locals say.
The people add that most electric poles have fallen with no measure taken to put in place new ones.

To express their discontentment to a government they say does not border to resolve issues affecting the citizens, disgruntled people in Maga dressed in black this Friday, October 9.
Speaking to Mimi Mefo Info on phone, one of these irate people says “…the regime has failed to provide all basic needs of the people including electricity so we are calling for a political transition.’
