Twenty four thousand three hundred and twelve (24,312) electors will take party in Cameroon’s first regional election on the 6th of December 2020.
Elections Cameroon (ELECAM) says 272 polling stations throughout the national territory will be used.
The electors are the country’s municipal councilors and traditional rulers.
Board members of ELECAM meeting Wednesday, November 25, in Yaounde reaffirmed readiness for the polls. To Dr. Erik Essousse, Director General of Elections at ELECAM, voting materials are being distributed while various political parties are already using campaign posters produced by ELECAM.
Without mentioning how the security of voters will be guaranteed in the North West and South West Regions of Cameroon, as well as in the Far North, the Board Chair of ELECAM, Enow Abrams Egbe said the body will explore its huge experience of organising elections in Cameroon to run the regional election.
As December 6th 2020 voting day draws near, separatist fighters in the anglophone regions consider Cameroon as a foreign country which has no right to organise election in their land.
Earlier on Tuesday, November 24, the ministry of territorial administration began the payment of 175 millions francs to representatives of fourteen political parties participating in the regional election. The money constitutes the first quota of payment as stipulated in the electoral code.
