Inhabitants of Penda-Mboko, a town in the Moungo Division of the Littoral Region are unable to move to nearby Muyuka subdivision in the Southwest region following a breakdown in the lone ferry that transports people over the river separating both localities.
Locals say the ferry broke down three months ago, making transportation between Penda-Mboko and Muyuka impossible.
“We are begging the authorities to help us and look for a solution to our problem,” said an inhabitant of Penda-Mboko.
The inhabitants are currently using canoes to sail across but at a cost of FCFA 200, which usually rises to FCFA 500 at night. As of now, only bikes and people can be transported across in canoes.
“People use only canoes to go to Muyuka. Farmers who live in Muyuka and do farming in Penda-Mboko are suffering a lot. To leave the village to the Muyuka market is a problem,” said an inhabitant.
