The corpse of Anye Emmanuel Akenji has been pulled out of a river that separates Mulang in Mankon from the Below Foncha neighborhood in Nkwen, Bamenda, North West region.
“On Thursday, the military arrested Anye as he was walking along the roadside around Street 5 Mulang. They went and killed him and threw his corpse into the river,” a trusted source has told Mimi Mefo Info.
Mimi Mefo Info learned that Anye’s only crime is that he was moving towards Street 5 Mulang while armed separatists from Ntankah were shooting at Street 1 Mulang.
“Anye was by the roadside around Street 5. As the soldiers were passing, they just arrested him given that Amba boys were shooting at Street 1. Instead of going to face the amba boys, the soldiers rather arrested Anye who is an innocent civilian,” another local said but did not want to be named for fear of reprisals.
The corpse of Anye Emmanuel Akenji suggests that the soldiers gave him snake beatings even as he pleaded his innocence.
“There are wounds everywhere on his body. The soldiers must have beaten him mercilessly before carrying out the extrajudicial killing. His hands show that he was begging for mercy when he died,” a source said.
Mimi Mefo Info understands from locals that Amba boys live nearby Ntankah and Ntasen and operate in Mulang, but soldiers turn around and attack civilians, instead of dislodging the amba camps.

Incidents like the summary execution of Anye Emmanuel Akenji adds to other extrajudicial killings led by Cameroon’s security and defense forces. Residents in Mulang, especially young boys are now living in fear and doubt over who may be next.
At the time of this report, Anye Emmanuel Akenji was being buried at this family compound in Street One Mulang, Mankon.
Mulang is home to the office of the City Mayor of Bamenda and also hosts the Army Rescue Unit and other detachments of the security forces.
