Students of the Information Communication Technology, ICT University have been challenged to thrive for excellence and create positive impact in the Cameroonian society and beyond.
The call was made Monday November 30 during the matriculation ceremony of new students at the Cameroon campus site in Yaounde of the US-styled institution.
The event was chaired by the representative of the Minister of State, Minister of Higher Education, Prof Fongod Augustina.
Key speakers during the event told the over 250 students to make use of the facilities of the prestigious institution described as “emblematic,” in the ICT sector, to become the best and effect the needed impact on the society and the country’s digital economy.
Rev Prof Anyambot Emmanuel Anya, ICT University Vice Chancelor exhorted them to immediately start building their future.
“Think about what you want to become in the future, believe in what you think and it shall be possible, dream about what you thought and believe as if it has already happened and engage the process towards the realisation of what you want to become and that shall become a reality in your life”, the VC said stated.
Meantime, Njong Eric, Architect and multi-billionaire entrepreneur of Buns Company drilled them on the need to uphold professionalism and what is required to succeed in challenging times.
“If information and communication technologies are to fulfill their potentials in improving the lives of all, then the importance of professionalism of its practitioners cannot be overemphasized” he said, adding that “there is a strong link between professionalism and moral responsibility. To me, a professional should have these necessary characteristics: competent, ethically sound, knowledgeable, ability to learn fast and be proud of your profession.”
After touring the magnificent campus of the university, she described it as “a unique and emblematic place for the training of students in the field of information technology and management”
ICT University hailed for contribution towards emergent vision 2035
The contribution of US-style varsity towards Cameroon’s attainment of an emergent nation by 2035, was also hailed during the ceremony.
Speaking on behalf of the Minister of Higher Education, Prof Fongod said the award of scholarships to young Cameroonians, was an eloquent testimony of Prof Mbarika’s love for Cameroon and his desire to assist President Paul Biya’s vision to make Cameroon an emergent nation by 2035 through quality training.
“Like the president said, the digital revolution will not wait for late comers. COVID-19 really thought us that an investment in digital world especially for our young ones is the best.” She opined. The said scholarships which included 10 PhD and 10 Masters was said to cost about a hundred million FCFA.
The opening of a francophone system for that has gone operational this academic year was equally seen as a formidable contribution to the emergence vision.
“The government welcomes the decision by the ICT University to begin a francophone section this year to enable all Cameroonians have access to knowledge in the two official languages. This is in line with the bill on official languages recently promulgated by the president of the Republic and is enough flexibility in leadership.” she explained.
The ICT University officials said has graduated more than 25,000 globally.
