The official mascot of the African Football Championship, CHAN 2020, today starts a tour to three cities to host the championship in Cameroon from January 16th to February 7th, 2021.

At the start of the tour in Yaoundé Sunday, December 27th, 2020 at the Yaoundé Sports Complex, the minister of sports and physical education called on Cameroonians to demonstrate patriotism and a pan-African spirit in welcoming the sixteen African teams from January.

To Minister Narcisse Moulle Kombi, president of the national organizing committee of CHAN/CAN, “Cameroon will be at the heart of Africa during this championship particularly the cities of Yaounde, Douala, and Limbe”.

“Tara” the mascot will be presented in Douala and Limbe in the days ahead after a tour of Yaoundé Sunday, December 27th.

The minister states that in respect of measures against the coronavirus pandemic, stadia concerned will receive 25% of their capacity during group stage matches and 50% during the second round as stated by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

The opening match of CHAN will see host country Cameroon taking on Zimbabwe.

Narcisse Moullle Kombi called on the population at the ceremonial ground to observe a minute of silence in respect to over a dozen Cameroonians that have been confirmed dead following a road accident in Ndikiniméki in the Centre region of Cameroon.
