In an operation carried out by elements of the National Gendarmerie Tuesday in Yaoundé, three persons were arrested for numerous fraudulent activities, amongst them the trafficking of coins.

These individuals were arrested in a documentation center with 100FCFA coins 100FCFA worth 150,000FCFA.

Amongst other things, they were also caught in possession of some fake banknotes, forged civil documents, and computers.

After they were interrogated about the chunk of coins discovered in their keeping, one of them said it is a business which they do, by collecting coins and reselling them for banknotes at a much higher value to traders and other business people.

Upon the arrest, the Nlongkack Gendarmerie has opened an investigation to uncover more of these fraudulent activities happening under the cover of legit businesses.

The National Gendarmerie has equally called on all citizens to denounce all suspicious and fraudulent activities taking place around them.

It should be noted that Cameroon, in recent times, has been suffering from an acute shortage in the circulation of coins in the country. Traders in Cameroon have cried out severally to the state to look into the reason for the gradual disappearance of coins from the economy.
