A trader has been transported to the hospital after sustaining a wound in the course of a confrontation between forces of law and order and traders at the Douala Central Market Wednesday, March 24th, 2021.
“The trader was shot by the forces as we protested against high taxes imposed on traders trying to earn a living,” a trader told a local journalist.
The traders attest that they are standing against a decision for them to pay the sum of FCFA 100.000 a year for selling in an open space opposite the Post Office.
They are accusing Denise Fampou, Mayor of Douala 2 of working in complicity with authorities of the city for traders to pay the sum.
Forces of law and order used teargas to disperse irate traders from staging a protest against the decision of the administration. In the process, some commercial motorcycle riders have been brutalized.
