The administration in Meme division in the South West region of Cameroon has described social media information of military attack in Mbonge village killing civilians as “…false and manipulative…”.
Ebane Slesor, divisional delegate of communication for Meme speaking to Sweet FM, a local radio in Douala on phone Monday March 29, 2021 says, ” First of all pictures circulating on the social media were not taken over the weekend. General Spirito of Ambazonia and other separatists were killed on the 18th of March in Foe Bakundu. During the shoot out six terrorists were killed and not civilians”.
She adds that elements of the rapid intervention battalion (BIR) gathered villagers in the course of the shooting in a compound to avoid stray bullets and equally to educate them on the need to denounce terrorist activities.
She debunked writings that military men invaded Mbonge village killing civilians indiscriminately.
“The SDO of Meme visited the area and locals attest that nothing as such happened as published on the social media,” the divisional delegate of communication stated.
The divisional officer of Mbonge subdivision Otto Williams Serge has opted not to comment on the issue.
At the weekend, separatist activists in the diaspora released pictures of dead bodies littered in a village supposed to be Mbonge in Meme division.
According to them, armed military men launched an attack in the village Saturday March 27th killing civilians indiscriminately.
