Three women who were aboard a Toyota vehicle have lost their lives along the Ngoumou-Makak railway in the Center Region as their vehicle collided with a moving train on the rail. The incident happened on March 27, 2021.
According to a press release which was published by Camrail on March 29, the driver of the vehicle who was grossly at fault, somehow halted the vehicle on the railway track, without minding the dangers of the actions.
The release also added that the driver of the locomotive train upon approaching the dangers, gave the required horn sound from the distance required to alert the vehicle of the danger approaching.
The vehicle reportedly did little to move swiftly off the track, causing the train which equally tried averting the accident by applying its breaks to no avail, to run into the vehicle, killing all three occupants of the vehicle, and causing severe damages to the railway and parts of the train.
Due to such reoccurrences on Cameroon railways along the years, Camrail has decided to intensify their sensitization campaigns against uncivil behaviours on rails as it has cost many lives.
It is worth noting that in 2019 alone, more than 29 accidents were recorded at the levels of crossings across the country, hence increasing the need for a nationwide sensitization against such acts.
