Residents of Muea in Buea, South West region woke up to the sound of gunshots this day.
The quarter which has for several months now witnessed relative calm once more experienced gunfire as soldiers were spotted in the neighborhood.
Describing the gunshots around the Mount Carmel Junction as deafening, one local said “the shooting has been very intense for the past 30 minutes and everyone is on the floor”.
“I can’t determine those behind the gunshots,” he stated, adding “… the military just drove past the area now”.
Another source in Muea confirmed the shooting, saying separatist fighters stormed the area “from the police checkpoint well dressed in military attire and burnt a care…”.
No official statement however has been made about the incident. Muea has had its fair share of violence in the four-year-long Anglophone armed conflict, and continues to experience such skirmishes.
Today’s incident is believed to have been carried out by Amba fighters as part of efforts to enforce their declared ghost town.
