Cameroonian authorities have maintained silence over the failed return home of President Paul Biya after a two-week troubled stay in Switzerland.
After close to two years home, president Biya took off for Switzerland for what he termed a “private stay”, with wife Chantal Biya and a few members of his clique.
After a stay marked particularly by protests, as diaspora Cameroonians called for his return home, it was announced that the president would make his way back to Cameroon this past weekend.
This was announced by Gilbert Tsimi Evouna, Regional Council President for the Centre region who doubles as Head of the CPDM Permanent Divisional Delegation for Mfoundi.
After mobilising regime fanatics known to be paid for such welcome parties at the airport, the president’s ‘much awaited’ return was futile.
He and wife, Chantal were nowhere to be found, and the crowds would later return home.
With the president’s return prolonged, many remain lost as to his plans. There had been many speculations about Biya’s return home, given that he has in previous times made big moves including a change in cabinet.
His prolonged stay abroad however is no news to many, as prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, he was known to spend a greater part of his time abroad.
