At the request of the President of the United States of America Joe Biden, Uganda has agreed to host at least 2,000 Afghan refugees in their country.
This request by the United States follows the takeover of Afghanistan by the Taliban group following the conquering of the Afghan capital, Kabul.
The confirmation of the imminent arrival of Afghan refugees was today made by the Ugandan Minister for Refugees, Esther Anyakun.
A first set of 500 refugees were expected in the country yesterday Tuesday, and more to follow today and in subsequent days.
Uganda, by adhering to this, has become the first and only East African Nation so far to agree to host Afghan refugees after the Taliban seized power.
