A concerned parent has spoken out against the corruption being practiced at the Government Bilingual High School (GBHS) Mendong in Yaoundé.
Parents who come to seek admission for their kids are demanded to pay a required amount of money in bribe for any considerations to be made.
“I went to register my cousin into Form One at the Lycee Bilingue de Mendong in Yaounde, and I was asked to pay the sum of 100.000frs (One hundred thousand francs) before commencing with anything registration.
“To be clear, this excludes the registration fee, PTA, and school fees to be paid. Bewildered, I enquired from another parent wether it’s a norm with schools in Yaounde.
“I was told that for any child to be admitted into Form One in that institution, a bribe of one hundred thousand francs must be given, without which one cannot be admitted.
“Please authorities in charge of secondary education should do something and lift this burden off the shoulders of parents, for the children’s sake,” she testified.
