Four persons arrested and charged with the school shooting at the Mother Francisca International Bilingual Academy in Kumba, South West region of Cameroon are to be executed by firing squad.

The judgement was passed today by the Buea Military Tribunal where they were standing trial for acts of terrorism, hostility against the father land, secession, Insurrection, murder and illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.

MMI gathered that the condemned have up to ten days to appeal the sentence handed down to them.

Reacting to the sentence, Barrister Tamfu Richard said the decision might sound hard, but it is the law.

“The judge remains the umpire of his judgment if he was convinced with the evidence provided to him on the charges for which they were prosecuted. The Judge has as guide, the law and his conscience,” he stated.

“Law is hard but that is the Law. The only remedy available as a Lawyer is to appeal the decision of the judgment,” he advised.

The October 2020 Kumba school shooting remains one of the most gruesome landmarks of the Anglophone crisis that has lasted five years today.

Seven students were shot dead and 13 others injured after unidentified gunmen stormed the school and opened fire.

No one claimed responsibility for the attack but government and separatists as in similar past instances, traded blames.

It remains uncertain if those sentenced for the act intend to appeal the decision of the military tribunal.
