Residents of localities along the Ebolowa-Akom 2 road in Cameroon’s South region yesterday staged a protest, blocking passage along the highway.
They assembled at a place called “Pont de la Mvila” several kilometers from Ebolowa. Using tree branches to block the road, they paralyzed circulation for several hours.
Reports say the disgruntled population blocked the road as they staged a protest demanding better social amenities including roads and power supply.
Among their other worries, was what they said were high transportation fares, spurred by the impassable nature of roads as well as exploitation at multiple security posts along the road.
The protesting locals defied a call by administrative authorities to liberate the blocked roads, and only heeded after the deployment of the forces of law and order.
Failure of authorities to hear their cries, they stated, would result in similar activities in the near future.
