An alert against the rise of the Covid-19 pandemic in the South West Region has been made. At least 52 persons have died from the virus this past three weeks in the South West Region, with Buea being the most affected town.
At least 345 active cases are equally being handled in the region. Public Health authorities in the South West Region have called on and urged the population of the South West Region to adhere to barrier measures against the pandemic and to get vaccinated.
Dr. Ngund Mathias, the District Medical Officer for Buea said “… This is the first time since the pandemic broke out that we are having such high death figures recorded within a month, it is very serious.”
23 vaccination centers have been opened across the region to ease access to the vaccine to the population. Health authorities say adhering to barrier measures saves persons from contracting the virus, but maintain that only the vaccine against the Covid-19 pandemic remains the ultimate protection from it.
