Southern Cameroonians around the world today, October 1st, marked their Independence Day. Anglophone activists believe that the day ought to be recognised by the entire Republic of Cameroon, but it’s never been observed as a national holiday.
A lockdown was recorded in Anglophone Cameroon this October 1st 2021. Tradition repeated itself as many stayed indoors following calls for a sit-at-home by Separatists, as they marked the Independence Day of former Southern Cameroons. The day was marked by clashes in some parts of the North West and South West regions while other areas recorded relative calm, with little or no movement.
Separatist fighters marched in Bali, North West Region of Cameroon. Ambazonia flags were also spotted hoisted in some areas including Ndongo, Buea. In Buea, the march last was ended by a gunfire exchange between separatist fighters and government forces. No life was lost.
As English-speaking Cameroonians observed October 1, the population of Bamenda, capital city of Cameroon’s North West Region has accused Ambazonian fighters of endangering their lives with their actions today October 1, 2021. The complaints came after ADF fighters painted the Ambazonian flag and their name on a road in Longla Street. They say they are worried of being targeted by soldiers.
As Southern Cameroonians today marked their Day of Independence, Professor Elvis Ngole Ngole has said the crisis has been dragged on by people who have benefited from the chaos. He said the president is liberal and wants to end the conflict.
At least three persons were gunned down today in Wat, Donga Mantung Division, North West Region of Cameroon. The victims, a soldiers and two Separatist fighters, reports say, died in a shootout.

The day which marks their independence from Britain as Southern Cameroons is often marked by violence and bloodshed. The phenomenon has risen over the past years due to the ongoing armed conflict between government forces and separatist fighters.

The controversial lockdown was put in place by one of the armed factions fighting government forces, as part of efforts to compel the international community to acknowledge and bring solution to the crisis.
After close to a year behind bars, a four-man Cameroonian boat crew have been released. Held captive by authorities of Equatorial Guinea, they were released alongside two other passengers also of Cameroonian origin today. They were heading to Tiko through high seas when they were intercepted 11 months back.
The corpse of legendary Cameroonian musician, Nkotti François has been removed from the mortuary. A crowd of fans was present today at the Douala Military Hospital Mortuary to wish their final respects.
