The Speaker of Cameroon’s National Assembly, Hon. Cavaye Yeguie Djibril has tasked traditional rulers from the conflict-hit Anglophone regions to return to their regions of origin and serve their subjects.

He was speaking at the opening of the last ordinary session of Parliament for 2021.

MPs are meeting to scrutinize and pass the budget for 2022, among other activities.

In his opening speech at the November session of parliament that started today, the House Speaker, Hon Cavaye Yeguie Djibril said President Paul Biya had set the priority actions for the 2022 financial year.

These, he said, include the completion and reception of major infrastructural projects, implementation of the plan designed to boost the production of consumer goods, improvement of the business environment, reduction of security risks, among others.
“The National Assembly will in line with its mandate to ensure government oversight, see to it that the orientations are given and priorities set… were taken into account I the Finance Bill for the 2022 financial year,” he noted.
Hon Cavaye also mentioned recent trips made by Prime Minister Dion Ngute to the North West and South West regions to preach the government’s peace strategy.

“As a traditional ruler, I would like to seize this opportunity to appeal to my peers of the North West and South West Regions who fled their chiefdoms that they should return to their chiefdoms,” he pressed.

These traditional rulers, the House Speaker went on, “… have the binding duty to work in synergy with government authorities, to contribute their quota in the return to normalcy and in the task of restoring the authority of the state in their respective chiefdoms.”

Traditional rulers like most civil administrators in the North West and South West regions have since fled the zone for fear of their lives. This, however, is ironic to the stance taken by many claiming the armed conflict is fast coming to an end.
