The Department of Political Science and Comparative Politics of the University of Buea organized some MSc defenses Wednesday, November 10, 2021.
The Head of the Department of Political Science and Comparative Politics, Dr. Abangma James Arrey took advantage of the commotion on campus following a “bomb” explosion to stealthily organize MSc defenses for some students admitted into the Ph.D. program without Master’s Degrees.
He co-opted two lecturers loyal to him to fulfill the mission that took place at Cultural Village.
Having come under pressure from the Senate of the University of Buea, the Dean of the Faculty of Laws and Political Science was instructed to regularize the situation of the 13 students admitted into the Ph.D. program under the Department of Political Science and Comparative Politics. The Dean reportedly asked the Head of Department to weed out students admitted into the Ph.D. without Masters degrees.
Dr. Abangma, who is also President of SYNES-UB, has stood his ground, preferring to organize defenses for the students concerned, especially given his vested interests.
The first to defend was Ottop David Esengwo alias, Daddy David.
Born Ottop David Esengwo, Daddy David is the first student to have a first-class degree in political science in Cameroon, from the University of Buea and was admitted into the Ph.D. program in the same department even before he defended his master’s degree.
He is Pastor of Believers In Christ Family Ministries Int’l (BICFAMI). He is said to be loyal to the Head of Department, helping him to teach and even selling his books to students.
It is not known if the same favor will be given to other masters students pending defenses.
