Members of Teachers Trade Unions in Cameroon represented in the North West region have condemned the recent killings in Buea and Bamenda of Enondialle Carole and Tataw Brandy, school-going children by security forces in separate incidents.
In a press release signed by five teachers’ trade unions, they also condemned the use of explosive devices by separatist armed groups in school premises describing it as an attack on education.
One of the signatories of the release, Semma Valentine, head of the Cameroon Teachers Trade Union, CATUC, has called on the protagonist of the current stalemate to refrain from acts that target members of the educational family.
He regretted that schools have been attacked, burnt. Pupils, students have been killed, kidnapped and, even beheaded.
In the past five years, state armed forces or armed groups reportedly recruited students from schools in 17 countries including Cameroon, he regretted.
He called on government officials to stop sitting in their offices in Yaounde and giving instructions when the reality on the ground is different.
