Awusum Mispa, the President of the Cameroon Renaissance Movement, Women’s wing has been slammed a 7-year jail term.
She was sentenced yesterday alongside Pascal Zamboue, another CRM militant by a military court.
Mispa is not the first opposition politician to be targeted by the regime. The likes of Kah Walla and techpreneur, Rebecca Enonching have also been victims.
Following the 2018 Presidential Elections, Barrister Michele Ndoki too fell victim, as she was arrested and detained alongside the CRM President, Maurice Kamto, and others in October.
They would later be sent to the dreaded Yaounde Kondengui Prison, known to harbor most of the country’s political prisoners.
This systematic crackdown has seen a drastic drop in the number of opposition supporters, especially women. Despite making a larger portion of the population, females are rarely seen at anti-government protests and demonstrations.
It is feared Mispa’s situation is coming to worsen the already ugly scenario for female opposition politicians.
