A military operation Thursday January 20 in parts of Bui division in the conflict-hit North West region of Cameroon resulted in the killing of dreaded self-styled Amba General popularly known as Ebube and two of his lieutenants.

The three footmen of the separatist Ambazonia movement are said to have fallen under military gunfire in the locality of Nseh when a detachment of soldiers raided the camp of the killed General Ebube.

The corpses of the separatist kingpin and his two aides were later deposited at a public place. Locals went about their activities as the corpses were left in the open.

The military are said to have recovered weapons, the separatist flag, motorbikes and charms from the camp of the Amba fighters.

Ebube was said to be the brain behind the blocking of the Kumbo- Nkambe road. The stretch has remained blocked for years, making traveling to Nkambe and other parts of Donga Mantung division a nightmare.

The same Ebube is also reported to have lost admiration from locals when he turned on civilians on several occasions kidnapping them for ransom, torturing and killing some.

His killing adds to many others that have perished in confrontations with security forces. Though such killings have been considered by some as a step towards ending the crisis, many Amba fighters continue to emerge each passing day.

The government of Cameroon is believed to have lost hundreds of soldiers in the conflict-ridden English-speaking North West and South West regions. Calls for mediation to end the crisis have not bore any fruits for over four years now.
