Former Indomitable Lions player, Eric Njemba Njemba has reacted to the stampede at the Olembe Stadium yesterday before Cameroon’s game against Comoros.
Speaking to the BBC, Eric Njemba Njemba insinuated that, “the Stampede at the Olembe Stadium in Yaoundé is one of the worse things that could ever happen in Cameroon.”
The incident is reported to have led to the deaths of at least 6 persons on the spot, with the death toll now standing at over 8 casualties.
Eric Njemba Njemba expressed his deepest regret for such an unfortunate incident at the stadium, where people just wanted to go and cheer their team.
According to Njemba Njemba, Cameroon had done all it could to put all the AFCON infrastructure in place.
A few moments after the incident at Olembé, Cameroon’s Minister of Territorial Administration Paul Atanga Nji went down to the scene to assess things for himself.
An investigation process is said to be underway to shed light on what happened at the stadium.
More security measures will also be put in place to better enable crowd control at the stadium premises.
