Some striking teachers say government has started responding to their needs. Among the needs met, some say, is the complete payment of their salary and not 2/3 as before. However, they are yet to return to class as they await other measures including the payment of arrears to be implemented.
The stretch of road from the Welcome To Bamenda point to the Monument at Up Station Bamenda, North West Region will soon get a facelift thanks to funding from the Road Fund. The town’s Mayor, Paul Achombong revealed that the stretch will cost over 1.7 billion FCFA to construct. The patch, road users say, has made journeying and movement a living hell these part years.
The bodies of three young men killed in Bamenda Sunday night were today taken to Guzang for burial. The three mechanics were shot dead on their way back from Bali over the weekend by security forces. Like in may other cases, authorities have been silent and the soldiers not called to order.
Close to 1,500 teachers in Ngoketunjia division, North West Region have had their salaries suspended by government. Quizzed on the happening, the region’s governor, Adolphe Lele l’Afrique said they should table applications for the reinstatement of their salaries alongside proof that they have been working in their respective schools. Teachers however say they remain trapped as government won’t provide adequate security in the division and separatists won’t let them teach.
The President Director General of Equinoxe TV, Severin Tchounkeu has accused Territorial Administration Minister Paul Atangana Nji of using the Littoral Governor, Samuel Ivaha Diboua to threaten his structure. In a presser last night, he said a release warning the media house was an afront on the press engineered by the Minister. Equinoxe TV has often come under scrutiny by government officials especially for its incisive and objective reporting.
Joseph Chebongkeng, President of the National Communication Council has warned media professionals against “disseminating compromising information against individuals or republican institutions” and threatened to sanction those who do so. His warning however comes against the backdrop of government threatening critical media organ, Equinoxe TV. Many have shamed the NCC for failing to stand up for the press in times of persecution.
