Some residents of the Mabanda vicinity in Douala, Littoral region have lamented over what they say is a plan by government to demolish their homes.
The quarter has over 150,000 inhabitants.
According to a release published by the Minister of State Property, Survey and Land Tenure, Henri Eyebe Ayissi, the area is to be used for construction of sports facilities.
“At first, my children usually walked in mud but today, I have struggled to build a house. They are now coming to destroy the house., where should we run to? Where will I go with my children?” said a Mabanda inhabitant.
“Were they not seeing us here before giving authorisation to build? After huge sacrifices and investments by individuals they are now coming to destroy out houses.” cried another inhabitant. “
They have appealed to the Head of State, President Paul Biya to come to their rescue.
Going by one of the Mabanda residents, “we are already tired. Let the President look into this issue. We are tired of destructions; we don’t even have what to eat but every day they keep destroying houses. Demolitions have become common nowadays in Douala.
