The family of Sama John has raised an alarm over his failing health situation at the Kondengui prison. He was arrested over two years ago in relation to the Anglophone crisis and remains chained despite his ill health. He is one of thousands in pretrial detention in the overcrowded prison.
The march past to mark this year’s Labour Day in Cameroon has been cancelled. The decision was made known by the Minister of Labour and Social Security, Grégoire Owona who cited the COVID-19 pandemic. Many have questioned the decision noting that other public events go on unperturbed.
The Social Democratic Front (SDF) party has announced a National Executive Committee meeting set for May 14, 2022. The party’s Secretary General, Senator Jean Tsomeleu adds that the NEC meeting in Yaounde will be presided over by the party Chairman, Ni John Fru Ndi.
Workers of the Cameroon Development Corporation, CDC,the second largest employer in the country are threatening to embark on a strike action. They say they have gone for 27 months without salaries. Authorities, they say, leave them with no choice other than dropping their tools.
In a similar regard, workers of sanitation company HYSACAM in Yaounde are reported to have dropped their tools. For close to a week now, they have left the town’s streets untidy, absenting from dirt carting routines. The cause of their actions remains unknown.
22 persons are being detained in the Far North Region for illegally exploring forest resources. They were arrested in a locality named Ngamé following a manhunt conducted by officials of the ministry of wildlife with the support of the defense and security forces. They are believed to have engaged in the random felling of trees, burning them down for charcoal to be sold later.
