Primary school teachers in Evodoula subdivision, Lekie division of Cameroon’s Centre Region are said to have resumed their strike action over unpaid bonuses.
The striking teachers said they had waited for the government to pay money throughout 2021 to no avail.
“We were supposed to have our advanced payments. We have been waiting for it since January 2021. It is supposed to be in two semesters but till today, we have not received even a dime,” said Lido Nvondo, president of the association of Head Teachers in Evodoula subdivision.
According the Head Teacher of Government Primary School, GS Meyoss, they have been using money from their pocket to sustain the schools.
“On a daily basis, there is no space to breath for us as every one tries to put his hands in their pocket to run the school. We do this just because we want to avoid the schools shutting down completely. We are only asking to be understood and for our problem to be solved,” the Head Teacher stated.
Local authorities in the area are said to have pleaded with the teachers to resume teaching.
But they are said to have vowed that, such will only happen when their situation must have been addressed.
